Chlorine Bleach And How It Could Damage Your Embroidered Patches
When it comes to clothing, one of the best ways to improve how they look is to apply embroidered patches. Whether you use patches to identify a specific group, recognize someone for a specific achievement, or simply make a statement about who you are or what you believe, they give any piece of clothing an added measure of style and flair. But the truth is that you may encounter some problems when that item of clothing needs to be washed. Not only will you have to think about the washing instructions for the item of clothing, you will also have to bear in mind, the washing instructions for embroidered patches.
There are a number of cleaning products that should not be used with embroidered patches and probably the most damaging of all would be chlorine bleach. Because chlorine is so caustic, it will start to wear away the fibers and threads of the material. Those who use chlorine bleach when washing their whites will probably have noticed that the socks tend to get holes much quicker than when chlorine bleach is not used. When it comes to embroidered patches, the same thing tends to happen.
You will Notice Broken Threads and Colors That Have Faded
When you wash embroidered patches with chlorine bleach you will be reducing the life of the patch proportionally. Chlorine bleach will cause the colors on your patch to fade and after a while, individual threads will start to break. If this happens, then there will not be much that you can do to save the patch. You will end up having to buy a replacement patch and then switching it as soon as you can.
If you really do need to use bleach when washing your garments, you should try to use a product that does not have chlorine in it. The good thing about choosing non-chlorine bleach is that you get the same benefits but the threads and fabrics on your embroidered patch will not be damaged. And while it’s true that your colors and whites may not come out as bright with non-chlorine bleach, they will still come out brighter than if you used no bleach at all. Just be sure to follow the directions on your bleach packaging to ensure you’re using the product correctly. Non-chlorine bleach should have no effect on your embroidered patches.
What Chlorine Bleach is Good For
When it comes to embroidered patches and chlorine bleach, it does pay to remember that it does have a good use. It is something that can change the color of our patches if we want to do this. For example, suppose you ordered custom company patches with the expectation that gold borders would be perfectly suited to your beige-colored shirts. But when the patches arrived the gold was too bright, causing an unacceptable contrast between the two colors. Chlorine bleach would allow you to tone down this bright gold border before you added the patches to the uniforms.
You can use a small craft paint brush to do this. Simply brush the chlorine across the border, being careful not to get any on other parts of the patch. When the color is sufficiently faded to your liking, run the entire thing under cold water in order to wash away the excess and neutralize the bleaching action. The patch will be ready to applied to the clothing once it has dried.
