A Great Way To An Inexpensive Romantic Evening Guys Can Do Themselves
Most guys are not really into the notion of preparing a meal for the special someone in their life, it is simply easier to take them out to a nice restaurant and let the professionals handle the details. There is certainly nothing wrong with that, it has been a successful formula for generations of courting. But when you have found that really special lady, a sure fire way to show how much your really care is to prepare her a dinner to remember, all by yourself.
Every woman likes to be pampered, and every guy knows that. The problem is, we would rather just buy something like a spa treatment or the nice package of perfumes and oils bundled for our convenience at the store, it is less difficult than dealing with the details ourselves. Fortunately, the commercial world is aware of this little deficiency in the man beast and is very accommodating. Still, surprising her with some true tender loving care and personal pampering can mean a lot to her, and she is worth it.
Let us start out with our comfort zone, guys. Grab that poulan chainsaw and lets head for the woods, trust me on this, it is all a part of the grand plan. We start by felling a tree in a legal area for cutting, even if we have to shell out a few bucks for the privilege. Now we cut the felled tree into one and a half foot portions, and then split them into firewood. This ought to take the sting out of doing something the romantic side, as by now we have worked up quite a sweat.
Back home, prepare the fireplace for a good long fire, replete with starter kindling, matches and everything else you need to keep the fire steady. If the place could use a little tidying up, this is a good time to take care of that, you do not want some errant article of clothing or paraphernalia to ruin the mood. There is some more preparation to get to, but fear naught, you can handle this.
Now the tough part, you are going to prepare a meal that both you and she will enjoy, and do it with your own hands. The first step is to get the required elements of this meal, and resist the temptation to purchase a ready-made meal from the supermarket, it is not a bad idea, but tonight you are doing this all yourself. If you do not already have one, it is time to head to the local kitchen store a pick up an electric rice cooker; they are excellent functional devices at a reasonable price. If you already own one, we move on.
It is time to go grocery shopping. You will need sticky rice (not whole grain or wild rice), a piece of broiled chicken from the deli, uncooked scallops or shrimp (your choice or a combination), cream of mushroom soup, some microwaveable vegetables, a bag of shredded cheese (cheddar or mixed), a loaf of French bread, a ready made salad, and your favorite bottle of wine. You now have all the ingredients necessary for a simply prepared delicious meal.
Back home, it is time to take care of you. But first, read the instructions for preparing the rice and set it and turn it on to cook. With the machine, you can not fail. At this point you should be ready for a good shower, and all you have to add is the standard morning ritual, even though it is still the afternoon. Taking the time after you shower to get your hair in some semblance of shape and shaving (unless she digs your beard) can go a long way and requires little effort. This would be a good time to break out that bottle of cologne, or man perfume as we usually call it, which is why it remains on the shelf unused. It is not that she does not care for your smell, it is the idea of something different that we are leveraging here.
Now you are ready to prepare the meal. Start by preheating the oven to 325 degrees. The rice should be done by now, so fill an oven ready dish to about an inch and a half with the cooked rice. Now add the cream of mushroom sauce evenly over the rice. Place the uncooked shrimp or scallops on top of this layer of rice and soup (or shred the chicken and distribute that instead) and sprinkle the cheese over the whole mixture and cover with aluminum foil. Place your vegetables in a microwaveable dish and put the rice dish in the oven about 35 minutes before she will be there. Now is the time to start the fire so it will be ready when dinner is.
Now you can prepare the table in front of the fire with the good china, glasses for chilled water and wine. Cut the bread and place it on the table and microwave the vegetables per instructions. Now all that is left is to wait for her and the meal. Start checking the rice at about 25 minutes, you want the seafood cooked and the cheese bubbling and slightly browned but not charred. When it is ready, remove it and set it and the now cooked veggies on the table and you are ready for a rocking evening. And to think it all started with your homelite chainsaw.
