Kindle Touch Ships to Canada
Unannounced and unobserved, Amazon has listed the Kindle Touch In Canada, making it the only country to be included in Kindle Touch sales outside of the U.S.The Kindle Touch is the latest generation of the now-famous ereader series and first to offer navigation through a touch screen.
Amazon will not make sales statistics public but the Kindle Touch would be at the front of the pre-Christmas surge that saw Kindles flying out of the warehouse at rates surpassing a million a week.
And this despite the undeniable fact that Kindles are infamously hard to obtain if you do not live in the US.
Although Amazon is the most powerful online retailer in the world with commerce web sites in nine nations, distribution of the Kindle ereaders has often been restricted geographically for numerous reasons. At the end of 2011, neither the Kindle Touch nor the Kindle Fire, the two high visibility introductions of that year, were able to be purchased anywhere except in the U.S.
The releasing of the Kindle Touch on trhe Canadian market now gives that country access to four of the 6 Kindle models available, the maximum of any country outside of the USA.
The Kindle Touch being shipped to Canada is the basic Wi-Fi version which sells for US$139. A higher-end model with free 3G connectivity will not be offered outside of the U.S. A Wi-Fi connection requires access to the Web while a 3G connection works the same as a cell phone and is consequently more ubiquitous.
The Canadian model should benefit from a software upgrade released simultaneously which, among other stuff, makes page turning faster.
The Kindle Touch has many enhancements on the prior model, the Kindle 3. All the recentKindles use the amazing E-Ink display technology which makes the screen sharp and clear and relaxing to read. The K3, however, requires a 5-way button at the footof the ereader for navigation, compared to the touch screen in the Kindle Touch.
