Pedal Your Way To Learning To Play Piano

The Una Corda Pedal in a piano having two pedals is trulythe one on the left. In the case of a three-pedal piano, this pedal is found in the left most part among the three. The effect of this pedal is to soften the sounds created by the piano. To use this pedal, access it with your left foot for easy playing. On a music sheet, you will know that you should use this pedal when the sheet indicates the words “una corda”, while the words “tre corda” means that you should release it. This will alter the sound of the notes in a melodic way, usually for songs that signify a sad mood or a relaxing tone.
In a piano with three pedals, the pedal in the middle is called the Sostenuto Pedal. This is used by accessing it with the right foot. When pressed, specific notes are sustained while other keys are not affected even when played together. Notations for the use of this pedal vary according to the composer of the music, but the general cue to use it is “Sost. Ped”.
In pianos with two or three pedals, it is a standard that the pedal on the right side is always the Sustain Pedal. It also sustains the notes that are played, but unlike the Sostenuto Pedal, all the notes played are sustained when this pedal is used.
You push your right foot to make use of this pedal. The word “Ped.” indicated on the music sheet will tell you when to use this pedal as you play.
